GIANTS SPLIT PAIR WITH THE KENOSHA KINGS
The Oshkosh Giants baseball team moved into second place in the Wisconsin State League after splitting a doubleheader Sunday against the Kenosha Kings, losing the first 5-2, and winning the second 9-2.
Kenosha’s Jon Olson pitched seven steady innings to limit Oshkosh in the first game, but the Giants fared better in the second. Brad Demmin hit a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth, Luke Wirth had a RBI triple, and Derek Hiroskey contributed a RBI single.
The Giants’ play of the game came in the top of the sixth with the Giants up 3-1. With Kings runners on first and third and one out against them, Kenosha attempted a double steal. Hiroskey threw to Derek Leighton at second base and Leighton threw to Demmin, who tagged John Lequia out between first and second and then got Dave Hermes at the plate to end the inning.
With Sunday’s win, the Giants improve their record to 13-4 overall, 11-3 in league, one game behind the Lombard Orioles.
